Hellblazer at SDCC
Speaking at the San Diego comicon, Mike Carey again reiterated that his run on Hellblazer would be similar in style to
that of Warren Ellis' brief stint on the title. A criminal underworld with a magical bent will be introduced as part
of Mike's second story arc (the four part "Red Sepulchre", starting in issue #177). As well as reintoducing both
Cheryl and Gemma Masters,
Mike has plans for the following Ellis created cast members - Clarice, Albert, Map, Josh Wright and Watford.
Speaking to Newsarama, Andy Diggle (author on the upcoming Lady Johanna Constantine
mini-series) had this to say - "Lady C was created by Neil Gaiman in the pages of Sandman. We've tried to take
her down a more adventurous route, with a younger, more impetuous Johanna, not yet embittered by the sacrifices she
has had to make along the road to wealth and power. The series ties into existing Vertigo continuity, with enough
sly references to keep long-time fans of Sandman, Swamp Thing and Hellblazer happy - but it's also a self-contained
supernatural adventure story, with enough swashbuckling action, flintlock gunplay, grotesque monsters and graphic
decapitations to keep everyone else happy. We aim to please!"
